Statement by Dayron Valido, Representative of Cuba, at the Adoption of the Universal Periodic Review of Belgium.

Mr. President,

We welcome the delegation of Belgium and recognize the country’s commitment to the Universal Periodic Review.

We appreciate that three recommendations made by Cuba have been accepted.

We urge Belgium to reconsider its decision to reduce its cooperation budget and to fulfill its commitment to allocate 0.7% of its Gross Domestic Product to Official Development Assistance.

Likewise, we call on Belgium to effectively address racial discrimination and the arbitrary detention of migrants and asylum seekers.

We wish Belgium every success in implementing the recommendations received and support the adoption of its report.
