Statement by Dayron Valido, Representative of Cuba, at the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner on the human rights situation in Venezuela. 63rd session of the Human Rights Council.

Mr. President,

Cuba maintains a principled position against the imposition of punitive mechanisms without the consent of the country concerned.

It is the obligation of this Council to promote respectful dialogue and genuine cooperation, in accordance with the principles of impartiality, non-politicization, objectivity and non-interference. This is the only effective way to advance the noble cause of human rights.

Cuba rejects any interventionist action against Venezuela, or against any other sovereign country.

The unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Venezuelan people, which violate their human rights, must cease.
