Mr. President,
The growing manifestations of discrimination on religious grounds in developed countries, including acts of Islamophobia, are a cause for concern. Hate speech must cease.
The Cuban Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of religion and belief, without discrimination. The full exercise of this right is protected by the State.
Cuba is characterized by broad religious diversity. Catholicism, religions of African origin, Protestantism, Spiritism, Judaism, and Haitian Vodou, among others, coexist in harmony.
All beliefs and religions enjoy equal consideration. Their rites and customs are respected.
Acts of intolerance, discrimination, or violence based on religion are prohibited and punished in Cuba.
Mr. President,
We reject the inclusion of Cuba in politically motivated lists drawn up by the Government of the United States that seek to unilaterally assess religious freedoms in other countries.
Through dishonest accusations such as these, that government attempts to justify its unjustifiable and criminal economic war against the Cuban people.
We condemn the political manipulation of the right to freedom of religion or belief, as well as of any other human right.
Cuba reaffirms its commitment to freedom of religion, multiculturalism, and its rejection of intolerance, stigmatization, violence, and any form of discrimination against individuals on the basis of their religion or beliefs.
Thank you.
