The Democratic Left Front (DLF) of Sri Lanka firmly and unequivocally condemns the unjust and illegal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against the Republic of Cuba for over six decades. This unilateral coercive measure stands as one of the most prolonged and inhumane acts of collective punishment in modern history, violating the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the sovereignty of nations.
On the eve of the United Nations General Assembly’s annual vote on the Cuban Resolution demanding an end to the blockade, the DLF joins with the overwhelming majority of the world’s nations in reaffirming our solidarity with the Cuban people and government. Cuba has, despite enormous challenges created by the blockade, continued to demonstrate remarkable resilience and internationalism — offering medical assistance, education, and humanitarian support to countries in need across the Global South.
The blockade has caused untold economic hardship and suffering to generations of Cubans, limiting access to food, medicine, technology, and essential goods. It is a direct violation of human rights and an affront to the global conscience. The continuation and tightening of these measures contradict the principles of equality, justice, and peaceful coexistence that should govern international relations.
The Democratic Left Front calls upon the United States to immediately and unconditionally lift the blockade and to respect the right of the Cuban people to determine their own path of development, free from external interference and economic aggression. We also urge all nations, particularly those in the Global South, to strengthen their solidarity with Cuba and to uphold the call for a multipolar world based on mutual respect and cooperation.
In this decisive moment, the DLF expresses its unwavering support for the Cuban Resolution before the United Nations and its commitment to stand alongside the people of Cuba in their struggle for dignity, independence, and socialism.
Long live Cuba!
End the blockade now!
