The Greek-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity of Thessaloniki denounces and condemns the despicable Joint Statement against Cuba signed by 21 Ministers of Foreign Affairs, among them the FM of Greece Nikos Dendias. The Joint Statement, which repeats the known unacceptable slanders of the US against Cuba, consists a memorial of hypocrisy and audacity. The imperialists and their allies, who have massacred the peoples of the world, are talking about human and democratic “rights”. The ones who have imposed and support the genocidal economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba pretend that they care about the Cuban people's “freedoms”. We remind that the shameful statement of the U.S. State Department is co-signed by governments like Brazil of far-right Bolsonaro, Colombia of criminal Ivan Duque, Austria of far-right Sebastian Kurz, the countries of the Baltics, Poland and Ukraine which have a leading role in the persecutions against communists. The statement is also co-signed by the government of Israel which has not stopped committing daily crimes against the people of Palestine, as well as the state-protectorate of NATO, Kosovo. The signature of Mr Dendias on behalf of the Greek Government, which rushed to correspond to the call of its transatlantic allies, consists an insult and provocation for the Greek people. After all, the government of Mr Dendias has managed to demonstrate how it understands the people's “democratic rights”, by sending riot police to break peaceful protests, by violating the “University asylum”, by turning a blind eye to cases of police violence, by attacking the right to strike and trade unionism. The signature of Greece in this despicable text consists another black spot in the modern Greek foreign policy. It is another proof of the commitments of the government towards the U.S imperialists. However, they must know that: The bonds between the people of Cuba and Greece are bonds grafted by the ideals of internationalist solidarity and the struggle against imperialist. That is why they will not break no matter how many shameful, US-inspired declarations the Greek Government will sign. We express our full solidarity to the Cuban people and the government of Cuba and we demand: • The immediate withdrawal of Greece's signature from the despicable text of the Joint Declaration which was written in Washington DC and was supported by the EU, • The termination of every external intervention in Cuba's internal affairs, • The termination of the unjust economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba for more than 60 years. We call the workers, the young men and women, the people of Thessaloniki and northern Greece to condemn the new provocateur actions against Cuba and to stand in solidarity with the proud and heroic Cuban people!
