STATEMENT BY THE GUYANA PEACE COUNCIL CONCERNING LOSS OF LIVES AND DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE GREAT FIRE AT A SUPERTANKER TERMINAL IN CUBA

Guyana, August 8, 2022. The Guyana Peace Council (GPC) takes this opportunity to convey to the government and people of Cuba its deepest sympathy over the loss of life, physical injuries to persons, and damage to property caused by a massive fire due to a lightning strike that hit hydrocarbon tanks located at the supertanker terminal at the industrial zone in the Cuban Province of Matanzas.

The GPC applauds the expressions of solidarity and support by the Government of Guyana, other governments, and national organizations in countries around the world, many of whom have provided specialized and technical personnel, as well as other tangible forms of support to the Cuban government and people at this time of this great tragedy and loss of lives.

The GPC holds strongly to the view that just as the Cuban people continue to work hard to overcome the harsh conditions prevailing in their country because of the US-imposed economic blockade, in the same way, they will successfully overcome this national tragedy.

Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
Viva la Revolucion Cubana!
