The Covid-19 pandemic confirmed, emphatically but also tragically, the impotency of the capitalist system to satisfy the contemporary popular needs. In Europe, in the USA, in Latin American countries, such as Brazil, the results of Health’s commercialization have been painful for the people.
Within this extremely difficult period for the people, Cuba, a country of 11 million inhabitants, worthily emerged into a global champion of internationalist solidarity. Around 2,000 Cuban doctors and nurses, members of the “Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade” were sent to 21 countries across the world in order to contribute to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
The efficiency with which the Cuban National Health System dealt with the pandemic, both domestically as well as abroad through the medical brigades consists an important legacy of the socialist construction, from the 1959 Revolution to date. It furthermore proves the significant superiority of the socialist central planning in relation to capitalist anarchy in a particularly sensitive sector, such as the one of Public Health.
Within the context, the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity of Thessaloniki salutes and support the Campaign for the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Cuban Medical Brigades. It is a great opportunity that the Nobel Peace Prize, which unfortunately in the past has been awarded to imperialists and murderers (H. Kissinger, European Union, B.Obama, etc.), to be given to those who really deserve it: The people of a country which exports scientists, doctors and nurses, teaching to the people the meaning of internationalist solidarity.
Today, maybe more than ever, it is necessary to highlight the achievements of the Cuban Revolution, to support and extend the achievements of socialist construction and to inform broadly the world’s public opinion about the issue of the Blockade, which the U.S. imperialists and their allies have imposed for six decades in violation of international law.
The Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity of Thessaloniki calls its members and friends, the workers, the youth, the people of our city to support this campaign, thus strengthening the solidarity towards the island of the Revolution and the relations of friendship, cooperation and fraternity between the people of Greece and Cuba.
