Statement of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association on the recent sanctions against Cuba

Statement of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association on the recent sanctions against Cuba.

The Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association joins with the rest of progressive humanity, in condemning the recent sanctions against our sister country Cuba, as a desperate attempt by the most bellicose and greedy sections of United States government, to try and asphyxiate a 60-year revolution which has been beacon of hope for all of us who struggle for a better world.

These concerns are further heightened by similar attacks against our sister countries of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the homeland of Sandino, Nicaragua, which together with revolutionary Cuba, provide the strongest resistance to the empire designs for the imposition of an outdated and discredited Monroe Doctrine and a better life for its people.

The sabre-rattling statements by a motley crew led by the US president Donald Trump and which includes pardoned war criminal in Eliot Abrahams, should be exposed and strongly resisted especially by the peoples of our region that has been declared a Zone of Peace, a necessary condition for the survival of our fragile and tourism-dependent economies.

Revolutionary Cuba will not return to the colonial days which is what the escalation of these Helms-Burton sanctions have as its end game and our brothers and sisters in the homeland of Marti, Fidel, Raul and Diaz-Canel, can continue to count on the unwavering support of their Jamaica brothers and sisters to stand with you against the empire and its running dogs.
