We stand with Cuba
Crooked little Marco Rubio, architect of Trump's neofascist assault on our sister nation, has visions of grandeur, to achieve what 13 former occupants of the White House, (including Trump 1.0) have not been able to accomplish, which is regime change in Cuba.
And this is what the recent executive order from the 'emperor’, with its imposition of tariff on any country that dare to supply oil to Cuba, ultimate goal.
Ironically in his cruel and indecent haste to exact maximum pressure on the courageous Cuban people, has completely destroyed the 'fig leaf' of a cover that has been trotted out to justify the 64-year-old criminal blockade within the UN General Assembly, which is that the illegal and genocidal imposition, is merely a 'bilateral trade embargo'.
How therefore do you 'square' a 'trade embargo', with a punitive executive order that is designed to strangle an entire population in their homes, schools, hospitals with the most vulnerable members of the population, the elderly and children not been spared its disastrous effects.
Cuba's history is one of resistance and triumph over extraordinary odds, led by a party and revolution that has survived Batista and counter revolution, germ warfare, over 600 attempts on the life of its leaders, the special period and a US- led mercenary invasion, will overcome this latest desperate maneuver by the greatest threat to humanity, which the US empire represents.
In the words of president Diaz Canel, 'surrender is not an option and hard times like these must be faced'.
Our sister country is a ' living and breathing example' of what can be achieved, when a model of development, where the interest of the people trumps narrow special interests, that results in the achievement of social results that far outstrips those of the empire, while faced with an unprecedented 6- decade old most brutal economic blockade in the history of humankind.
History has provided us with examples of a dying empire with the USA being no different, with some of its distinct features being irrationally, acting with arrogance while employing bullying and blackmailing tactics, exerting pressure and coercion along with violence and lies.
The homeland of Marti, Maceo, Fidel, Raul, Diaz Canel, Grajales, Haydee, Celia and Vilma, can continue to count on the unconditional support of the Jamaican people, whether in trenches or in the battle of ideas, in the best tradition of our freedom fighters.
