Statement by Juan Antonio Quintanilla Román, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Cuba, during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela. 57th Ordinary Session of the HRC

Mr President,

Cuba rejects in the strongest terms this openly hostile, interfering and politically motivated exercise against Venezuela.

Cuba is firmly opposed to the resolution that gave rise to this mandate, which is a clear example of politicisation, double standards, selectivity and an imperialist attack on a country that has chosen sovereignty and social justice as its flags.

The report presented not only lacks objectivity, impartiality and seriousness, it is also disrespectful of international law, insofar as the experts believe they have been invested with the powers of an international tribunal. It is even more irresponsible to make serious accusations based on the parallel world constructed by the media and social networks.

It is an affront to human intelligence that this report does not concern itself with the humanitarian impact of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Venezuela, nor with the call for violence, destabilisation and death launched by the fascist extreme right, nor with the crime of publishing false electoral results and disrespect for constitutional order.

Cuba reiterates its unwavering support for the Venezuelan people and the democratically elected government of President Nicolás Maduro. We trust in the right of peoples to peace, dignity, solidarity and development.

Thank you for your attention.
