Statement from the Norwegian-Cuban Friendship Association.

Statement from the Norwegian-Cuban Friendship Association.

To the Norwegian Government, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

Defending International Law - No to Intervention in Cuba and Latin America.

The recent US military actions against Venezuela, along with open threats to other sovereign nations, including Cuba, have raised concerns about peace, regional stability, and respect for the UN covenant.

The Norwegian-Cuban Friendship Association must publicly reaffirm its commitment to international law and oppose any threat to or use of military power against Cuba and other sovereign nations.

The Norwegian-Cuban Friendship Association expresses its deep concern about the growing threat to peace and international law following the recent US military actions against Venezuela and the open threats made by high-ranking US officials to other sovereign nations, including Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and the autonomous region of Greenland.

In this dangerous context, Cuba once again faces growing threats to its sovereignty, security, and right to self-determination. Six decades of US hostility—including the ongoing economic blockade—have already caused enormous harm to the Cuban people and have been repeatedly condemned by the international community at the UN. Cuba, like Norway and all other sovereign nations, has the right to decide its own political, economic, and social system, free from external interference and threats.

Any attack against Cuba would be a flagrant violation of international law and the UN treaty, and would undermine regional peace and stability.

Therefore, we urge the Norwegian government to publicly affirm our obligation to international law and respect for Cuba's sovereignty, so that Norway opposes any threat of US military action against Cuba.
