STATEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN TRADE UNION UNITY (OATUU).

NO TO MILITARY AGGRESSION AND INTERFERENCE IN VENEZUELA.

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) condemns in the strongest terms the imperialist aggression of the United States against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Célia Flores. This attack constitutes a flagrant violation of national sovereignty, the Charter of the United Nations, international law, and the fundamental principles of the freedom of people.

OATUU denounces the kidnaping of President Maduro, the legitimate representative of the Venezuelan people, as an act that forms part of a strategy of domination and destabilization. By attacking the President of a sovereign country, it is the democratic will of millions of citizens that is being silenced, and a threat is posed to democracy worldwide.

This aggression is driven by the desire to plunder Venezuela’s immense resources, notably its oil, gas and strategic minerals, thereby depriving the Venezuelan people and workers of their economic sovereignty and their right to freely dispose of their wealth.

In the face of this injustice, OATUU, the voice of African workers, declares its solidarity with the workers and people of Venezuela and calls on workers, trade unions, social movements, and progressive forces in Africa and around the world to mobilize and demand:

  • The immediate release of President Maduro and his wife;
  • An end to American interference and all attempts at modern colonization;
  • Respect for international law and the right of peoples to self-determination

The attack on Venezuela’s sovereignty is an attack on the freedom of peoples everywhere. The African Trade Union Unity Organisation stands alongside the workers and people of Venezuela and all forces struggling for a world of dignity, justice and peace.
