The recent actions and rhetoric of the US right-wing forces demonstrate an alarming aggression, posing a threat not only to Cuba, but to global peace and stability. Their hostile stance is directed not only towards left-leaning nations such as Cuba, Venezuela, and China, but also extends to countries like Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the EU, and Russia. This indiscriminate aggression reveals a deep crisis within imperialist forces, suggesting a desperate push for dominance.
We believe that the US right-wing can be defeated by uniting the strength of the global working class and people's movements worldwide, including left and democratic governments. Therefore, our party, the TU movement, and the Sri Lanka-Cuba Solidarity Committee stand firmly in solidarity with the Cuban people and the Cuban revolutionary government. We reaffirm our unwavering support and commitment to their sovereignty and self-determination.
Statement of Support for the Cuban Government
We stand in solidarity with the Cuban government and its people in the face of the latest aggressive actions by the US government, as outlined in the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement of February 1, 2025. The revocation of the suspension of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act and the addition of Orbit S.A. to the List of Restricted Cuban Entities represent a further escalation of the decades-long US blockade, designed to cripple the Cuban economy and punish the Cuban people.
We condemn these measures, which violate international law and the sovereignty of Cuba. The extraterritorial application of the Helms-Burton Act, allowing lawsuits against foreign companies doing business in Cuba, is a blatant attempt to intimidate investors and further isolate the island.
The deliberate targeting of remittance processing companies like Orbit S.A. demonstrates a callous disregard for the well-being of Cuban families, both on the island and abroad.
The timing of these actions, following President Biden's positive, albeit delayed, decisions on January 14th, suggests a deliberate attempt to undermine any progress towards
normalization of relations. The Cuban government’s assessment of these measures as a prelude to further hostile actions seems highly plausible given the history of US aggression towards Cuba.
We recognize the Cuban government’s assertion that these actions are driven by a commitment to reactionary elements within the US, particularly in Florida, who prioritize political gain over the humanitarian needs of the Cuban people. The cynical manipulation of information and the attempt to blame Cuba for the consequences of the blockade are further evidence of this agenda.
We echo the Cuban government's call for the international community to condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with Cuba. The continued blockade and the intensification of these measures represent not only a violation of Cuba's sovereignty but also a grave injustice against the Cuban people. We join the Cuban government in condemning these hostile acts and reaffirming our unwavering support for the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people's right to self-determination. We believe, as the Cuban government states, that despite the harm these measures inflict, they will ultimately fail to achieve their objective of subjugating Cuba. Cuba will prevail.
