Dear Comrades,
On behalf of the Communist Party of Norway, we express our full solidarity with the Cuban people and government after the intensive earthquakes that struck the country with magnitudes of 6.0 and 6.8, causing landslides and damage to residential areas within the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Granma, which come in addition to the unfortunate hurricanes that also hit the country recently.
We have full confidence in the abilities of the Cuban emergency response teams and volunteers to save lives, prevent further damage, and reconstruct the affected areas. We have already seen evidence of people all across Cuba mobilising to help their neighbours and communities, which is a true sign of the exemplary and resilient Cuban revolutionary spirit. In particular, we note the dedicated efforts from the Communist Youth of Cuba in clearing the debris, after their educational institutions were affected by the recent events.
At the same time, we also reiterate our position expressed on the 28th October, and further solidified by the vote in the UN General Assembly on the 30th October, that the blockade enforced by the United States on Cuba must end, since, among many other things, it attempts to restrict the abilities of Cuban people and government to respond to extreme weather and natural disasters like these, and to access resources and materials that are otherwise readily available to any other country.
