Statement of Support for Cuba

Harare, 10 de febrero de 2025- The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Cuba during this challenging time marked by renewed hostility from the United States government. The recent announcement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the revocation of the suspension on lawsuits under Title III of the Helms-Burton Act is a blatant attempt to undermine Cuba’s sovereignty and economic stability.

The reinstatement of the List of Restricted Cuban Entities, which includes punitive measures against entities such as Orbit S.A., is an affront not only to Cuba but also to international law and norms governing state relations. These actions represent a continuation of a long-standing policy aimed at destabilizing Cuba through economic warfare, which has caused significant hardship for its citizens. The Helms-Burton Act itself is widely regarded as extraterritorial and illegal under international law, as it seeks to impose U.S. jurisdiction over foreign entities and individuals.

Cuba has demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of these unjust sanctions, maintaining its commitment to social justice, healthcare, and education despite external pressures. The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust recognizes that these sanctions are not merely political tools; they directly impact the lives of ordinary Cubans who strive for dignity and self-determination. We call upon the international community to reject these unilateral measures that violate human rights and hinder development.

We urge all nations, organizations, and individuals committed to justice and equality to stand with Cuba against these oppressive actions by the United States. It is imperative that we advocate for an end to all forms of economic coercion that serve only to exacerbate suffering rather than promote dialogue or cooperation. In conclusion, we reaffirm our support for Cuba’s right to self-determination free from external interference. Together, let us work towards a world where nations can coexist peacefully without fear of sanctions or retribution. The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust remains committed to advocating for justice and solidarity with all nations facing unjust sanctions. We will continue our efforts until all forms of economic oppression are dismantled.
