Statement by the TKP. We Stand with Cuba Against U.S. Aggression!

Since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution 67 years ago, American imperialism has resorted to every imaginable form of aggression in an attempt to subdue the Cuban people.

Over these 67 years, this has included the Bay of Pigs invasion, CIA operations, sabotage, biological attacks against agricultural lands, hundreds of assassination attempts against the Cuban leadership, terrorist activities carried out by paramilitary groups, diplomatic isolation, media operations, the commercial, financial, and economic blockade, and attempts to create a counterrevolution within the country.

They failed in all of them. All the noise and all the resources allocated by the U.S. rulers to bring Cuba down were wasted. Because what they faced was not merely a “regime” they deemed unacceptable, but an organized people who had won their independence through revolution.

Yet they did not abandon their destructive policies.

Because they see it as a historic defeat that, just miles from their shores, on an island they regard as one of their satellites, a sovereign, socialist, publicly oriented, and planned political power has remained standing for more than sixty years. Because the Cuban Revolution showed the peoples of Latin America that another path was possible and challenged the imperialist “backyard” order. Washington’s endless anger and resentment stem precisely from this reality.

As successive U.S. administrations failed against Cuba, they escalated their aggression. They believed they could suffocate Cuba during the dissolution of the Soviet Union and again after the death of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, but they failed.

Today, U.S. imperialism is once again trying to subjugate Cuba as part of the wave of aggression it has unleashed in an effort to reinforce its weakening international hegemony. Donald Trump, abandoning even the old diplomatic language decorated with references to human rights and democracy, openly threatens Cuba in the language of crude colonialism and seeks to go down in history as the president who fulfilled the 67-year-old “American dream.”

The Trump administration’s policy toward Cuba is well known. In recent months, sanctions focused especially on the energy sector, interventions targeting fuel supply chains, pressure exerted on third countries, and the expansion of financial siege mechanisms have all aimed to push Cuba toward economic paralysis. Indeed, prolonged blackouts, transportation crises, production disruptions, and difficulties in accessing basic necessities have made daily life in Cuba extraordinarily difficult, threatening the health and future of the Cuban people. Through these policies, which Cubans rightly describe as “genocidal,” the U.S. administration seeks to force the Cuban people into submission and destroy the revolutionary government on the island.

We know that our Cuban brothers and sisters, rather than surrendering in the face of this aggression, are fighting with all their strength against the complex problems caused by the blockade; that they are producing creative solutions through social mobilization and solidarity; and that beyond merely addressing immediate difficulties, they are taking strategic long-term steps to free the country’s economy and energy security from the grip of U.S. imperialism. Despite the blockade, the Communist Party of Cuba continues to defend public healthcare, education, and the other achievements of socialism. The social collapse expected by imperialism did not occur. The Cuban people did not kneel. The clearest expressions of this were the “My Signature for the Homeland” campaign, signed by millions of Cubans, and the massive May Day rallies across the island demonstrating the people’s determined resistance.

Unable to achieve its desired outcome, the Trump administration has now begun to voice direct military threats with greater intensity. In particular, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the anti-Cuban circles gathered around him — who have built their political careers on hostility toward Cuba — are pushing the historically aggressive U.S. policy toward Cuba onto an even more reckless, vindictive, and militaristic path. Closely tied to annexationist circles based in Miami, the far-right wing of the Republican Party, and interventionist factions within the state bureaucracy, these forces openly encourage the discussion of direct military options where economic warfare has failed.

Should U.S. reactionaries attempt a military attack against Cuba, the Cuban people will defend their country with the full historical legacy of the Revolution, their organization, and their anti-imperialist consciousness. In such a case, the United States will face not only Cuba’s armed forces, but millions defending their revolutionary homeland.

As the Communist Party of Turkey, we have not the slightest doubt about this.

As yesterday, so today, we stand with Cuba. We regard it as a historic duty to strengthen solidarity with the Cuban people against every form of aggression, blockade, and threat of military intervention by U.S. imperialism.

And we declare openly:

In the event of an imperialist attack, we are prepared to mobilize all our political, organizational, and social resources in defense of Cuba.

We will not leave Cuba alone. Imperialist brutality will not overcome the resistance of the Cuban people, who carry the dignity of humanity and the banner of socialism. The TKP will continue to be one of the leading forces of the growing internationalist solidarity movement supporting this resistance around the world.

Long live Cuba!

Down with imperialism!
