Statements by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez via his social media accounts on relations with the United States

There are no negotiations underway with the U.S. government, aside from technical contacts related to migration matters.

Cuba has consistently expressed its willingness to engage in serious and responsible dialogue with successive U.S. administrations, including the current one, provided such dialogue is conducted based on sovereign equality, mutual respect, adherence to international law, mutual benefit, non-interference in internal affairs, and full respect for Cuba’s independence.

The origin and intensification of the blockade bear no relation to Cubans residing in the United States, many of whom were compelled to migrate as a result of this failed policy and the incentives created by the Cuban Adjustment Act. Today, they have become victims of shifting U.S. migration policies and the betrayal of Miami-based politicians.

Bilateral migration agreements between Cuba and the United States remain in force, and Cuba continues to comply with them scrupulously.

As history has demonstrated, any progress in U.S.–Cuba relations must be grounded in respect for international law, not in hostility, threats, or economic coercion.
