Strengthening South-South Cooperation for the Elimination of the Transmission of HIV-AIDS and Syphilis from Mother to Child

The joint launch by UNICEF and Thailand of a South-South cooperation initiative for the Elimination of the Transmission of HIV-AIDS and Syphilis from Mother to Child was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

#Cuba and #Tailandia were the first and second countries in the world, in 2015 and 2016 respectively, to be validated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in this matter.

The event was chaired by senior executives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Health of Thailand, regional UNICEF and the International Cooperation Agency of Thailand. It was attended by representatives of numerous Thai institutions and the diplomatic corps.

Buenos Aires will host the Second UN High Level Meeting on South-South Cooperation from March 20 to 22, 2019. This event will address this issue as part of efforts to comply with the UN's 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

During the III International Convention "Cuba-Salud 2018", held in Havana on April 23 and 27, 2018, the Ministers of Public Health of #Tailandia and #Cuba signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation between the two nations in this and other areas of Public Health.

#Tailandia and #Cuba have expressed their willingness to promote South-South cooperation in this important field, sharing their experience with other countries.
