Students discuss about Sustainable Tourism Development in Cuba at Aalborg University, campus Copenhagen

Ambassador of Cuba to Denmark attends to the final presentation of master's degree students at Aalborg University, campus Copenhagen

In the context of the Master's degree program "Global Tourism Development" offered by the University of Aalborg, campus Copenhagen, the Cuban Ambassador to Denmark was invited to the presentation of the projects developed by a group of students on the theme "Sustainable Tourism Development in Cuba ". The discussion took place on March 30th and projects were focused on the area of ​​Viñales, Pinar del Río. Students and teachers of the master's degree program recognized the potential and natural beauty of Viñales Valley’s landscape, which is one of the nine Cuban World Heritage sites declared by UNESCO. The group traveled to Cuba where they had the opportunity to exchange with professors from the University of Havana, workers from the tourism sector in Viñales and residents of that area.

The Cuban Ambassador, Yiliam Gómez Sardiñas, in her opening remarks thanked the interest of the university institution in developing joint academic projects and at the same time expressed that tourism towards the Island continues to grow and it is expected to grow in 2017 breaking the four million visitors reached in 2016. She highlighted the intense work to improve the quality of tourist services in Cuba, taking advantage of the natural, cultural, historic and heritage attributes. He also noted that the Cuban government has formulated policies that promote sustainable tourism, which is also defined in Cuban legislation. The occasion was also an opportunity to promote the celebration of the 37th International Tourism Fair FitCuba 2017, that will take place from May 3 to 6, in the city of Holguin.
