The Hague, December 3, 2024. On the occasion of celebrating Latin American Medicine Day, students from the Medical Faculty of Leiden University visited the Cuban Embassy in the Netherlands to present the results of their research on Cuba.
The students, belonging to an elective course on the Cuban Health System, visited Cuba in October to exchange with Cuban health professionals and patients about their research topics.
The studies carried out have a combination of health and sociology and seek to explain behaviors or trends. It included topics such as Gender and Health; Professional identity of Family doctors; Sociocultural influence on the management of diabetes and the work of family doctors against the incidence of smoking.
During their stay in Cuba, the students were able to perceive the consequences of the US blockade on the Cuban population, including in the health sector; as well as the will and resistance of the people to face this complex situation caused by the blockade.
