Successful Cuban participation in the Istanbul International Tourism Fair.

Istanbul, Turkey, February 4, 2019. During the last four days a delegation from Cuba participated in the 23rd edition of the International Tourism and Travel Fair of the Eastern Mediterranean (EMITT), an event that takes place every year in Istanbul and that brought together this time around 700 tour operators from more than 100 countries.

On the opening day, the Cuban ambassador, Luis Amorós Núñez, conveyed a greeting to the Minister of Tourism and Culture of Turkey, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. The Cuban representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, of the Cubanacán, Meliá, Iberoestar, Blue Diamond and Alpitour World corporations, and of the embassies in Turkey and Italy, had numerous contacts to promote, initiate and monitor businesses with Turkish counterparts and others interested in tourism in Cuba.

Among these meetings, and with the participation of Ambassador Amorós, meetings were held with the President of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, Firuz B. Baglikaya, and with the Director of the Tourism, Travel and Fashion Group of Turkey, Hacer Aydin, president of the Organizing Committee of the Fair and who also visited the Cuban stand. The contacts made demonstrated the potential to continue developing tourist exchanges between both countries.

As part of the program, a presentation was made of the Cuban tourist destination to local tour operators, in which it was pointed out that almost 18,000 Turkish tourists visited Cuba in 2018. This event continued with the enjoyment of performances by the musician Pepe López, who also managed to attract a large audience to the Cuban stand during the days of trade fair activity. Several Cuban residents in Turkey also visited the stand, and two of them presented a painting of homage to Fidel by an artist from Ciego de Avila.
