Athens, 19 May. The José Martí Cultural Association of friendship with Cuba and the Embassy of Cuba in Greece honored the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí on the Metro Syntagma in Athens, on the 125th anniversary of his fall in combat. With signs saying "I stand with Cuba" went to the central Athenian Metro station of Sintagma, under the Hellenic parliament, where the photographic exhibition "José Martí: With Greece in the heart” is exhibited.
This exhibition with original photos of the Counselor of the Embassy of Cuba in Greece José Oriol Marrero Martinez, also present at the event, is located in two parts in the metro stations of Sintagma and Acropolis since March 13. The exhibition illustrates the love and admiration of the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí, towards Greece and also has texts in Spanish and Greek, from the book of the counselor, about what Martí has written about those places in Greece that are in the photos.
The Greek people transiting the Syntagma subway stations (34 photos) and Acropolis (29 photos), is already appreciating the exhibition. This effort honors the Day of Independence of Greece, which is celebrated every 25 March, and also encloses the greeting and solidarity of the people of Cuba to the Brother Greek people, in all circumstances. It was also the appropriate framework for Greek friends to honor Cuba's independence apostle by supporting his people fighting USA´s unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean island for nearly 60 years.
Solidarity and love between the Greek and Cuban peoples merged once again honoring the words that Oriol Marrero wrote quoting Marti when he says:
"We will work... without a truce or rest... and if we fall, we will exclaim like the Greek patriot in Missolonghi: "Tirano, here you will find the Cuban dead but slave no. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori". (José Martí. Cuba. Politics and Revolution. The clubs. May 25, 1892).
