Stockholm, July 26, 2023. In one of the most emblematic squares in Stockholm, the Embassy of Cuba in Sweden joined the celebration for the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks. Friends of solidarity with Cuba, Cuban residents and occasional passers-by gathered to commemorate Cuba's National Rebellion Day.
Between music and speeches, those present recalled the events that occurred on July 26, 1953, where a group of brave young people, led by Fidel Castro and moved by a tremendous feeling of social justice and patriotism, tried to change the destiny of that poverty-stricken Cuba.
In her speech, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Sweden highlighted the historical significance of those events, the guidance of Fidel Castro and how today Cubans maintain a Moncadista conviction, capable of standing firm in the face of challenges such as society and the attacks of the powerful neighbor.
The meeting was also the scene of energetic condemnation of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States on the island and the demand for the immediate exclusion of Cuba from the list of supposed sponsors of terrorism, which has caused so much damage.
Today, Cubans face new challenges as a society, but maintain firm confidence in building a fairer and more prosperous future for all. Just as once they rose up in Moncada, Cubans face their own Moncada and grow with determination and hope in the face of the difficulties presented.
The Embassy of Cuba in Sweden deeply appreciates the support and affection received on this special day, and reaffirms Cuba's commitment to continue building a more prosperous and sustainable socialism for all.
