The joint signing by the Greek government of the joint declaration of 21 foreign ministers against Cuba is a dangerous, irresponsible and deeply hypocritical maneuver. Not only does it openly intervene within a state, it not only opposes any notion of multidimensional and peaceful foreign policy, it is also a monument to hypocrisy.
The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not hesitate to sign a call for respect for human rights, with several countries, such as Hungary, Poland of Orban, which systematically violate the rights of LGBTQI people, the rights of women in determining their bodies, refugee rights and are accused by the EU of violating the rule of law. The New Democracy government itself has also launched a coordinated attack on labor rights, trade union freedoms, the rights to health, education and the rights of refugees.
SYRIZA- Progressive Alliance stands in solidarity and supports the Cuban people, affected for decades by an unjust and illegal embargo, which was condemned, according to the General Assembly. of the UN, of June 23, by the great majority of its members. At the same time, it condemns all attempts at foreign intervention, believing that the Cuban people, free and unflappable, are the only ones who can and should decide about their future.
The rejection of any thought of external intervention, the immediate end of the embargo, the respect of rights, the non-use of violence, is the only just and democratic solution for the country.
