Kingston, Jamaica, 30 November 2019. This Saturday, the national meeting of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association (JCFA) took place in Kingston. The event brought together around fifty people, representatives of the chapters of the JCFA of Kingston and other regions of the country; as well as the Ambassadors of Cuba, Inés Fors Fernández, and Nicaragua, Bridget Budier; officials of the Venezuelan diplomatic mission in Jamaica, the Friends of Cuba group, representatives of the youth section of the People's National Party (PNP) and the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS), executives of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica, graduates of Cuban schools, academics and other prominent figures of the solidarity movement with Cuba in this sister island.
As in past years, the figure of Fidel, on the third anniversary of his physical departure, was honored in the meeting. As part of the program, the documentary “Fidel es Fidel”, by Roberto Chile, was screened. Venezuelan poet and intellectual Luis Felipe Bellorin paid tribute with his music to the leader of the Cuban Revolution.
The members of the JCFA approved a declaration of condemnation of the US blockade, the permanence of the Guantanamo Naval Base and the aggressions of the US imperialism against Cuba. Other attendees and guests read messages of support and friendship with our country.
The Cuban Ambassador thanked in her intervention the permanent and tireless support of our friends in Jamaica, and stressed the importance of the unity of the peoples to face the threats to peace and advocate for a more just international order.
