Thai Minister of Science and Technology welcomes Cuban Ambassador

Thailand, June 13, 2017. The Minister of Science and Technology of Thailand, Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang, welcomed the Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, on a courtesy visit.

In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed, with special reference to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be held in May 2018.

Both sides agreed on the key role of science, technology and innovation in achieving a prosperous and sustainable development model. The potential of bilateral cooperation was assessed in priority fields such as basic, natural and agricultural sciences; medical and environmental applications, renewable energy sources, social and educational technologies; industrial technology transfer; production of advanced technology equipment; nanotechnology and high added-value scientific services. The Cuban Ambassador highlighted the ongoing actions in the framework of bilateral cooperation in biotechnological applications and medical-pharmaceutical production, as a contribution to the implementation of the Development Strategy 4.0 in Thailand, in accordance with the national philosophy of sufficient economy.

The Cuban diplomat took advantage of the meeting to invite the Minister to participate in the Second International Science, Technology and Innovation Convention to be held in Havana in February 2018, expressing that it would be a magnificent opportunity to visit, together with Thai scientists, leading research centers in our country and update the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2006 with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba.

Ms. Sibunruang expressed interest in the process of updating the socio-economic model of Cuba. The Ambassador of Cuba conveyed congratulations to the enactment, on April 6, 2017, of the Constitution no. 20 since the end of the absolute Monarchy and the establishment of the Constitutional Monarchy in 1932.

Both sides expressed their commitment to continue working for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
