Thailand and Cuba promote cooperation in multilateral forums

BANGKOK, August 29, 2019.- The new Deputy Director General of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. RongVudhi Virabutr, hosted a meeting with the Cuban ambassador, Héctor Conde Almeida, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the meeting, the parties recognized with satisfaction the ascending path of bilateral relations and reiterated the mutual will to continue expanding ties of cooperation and friendship between both peoples and nations.

The Cuban diplomat presented the Report of Cuba, in accordance with Resolution 73/8 of the United Nations General Assembly, on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba and thanked the support of the people and government of Thailand for this important claim of the international community.

In the cordial exchange, which was also attended by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian nation, was reaffirmed the importance of joint efforts in defense of multilateralism and of maintaining close cooperation in the various multilateral forums, including those related to achievement of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, South-South cooperation; the Latin America-East Asia Cooperation Forum (FOCALAE); non-aligned movement (NAM); the Paris Agreement on climate change; as well as support for the United Nations Treaty of total prohibition of nuclear weapons.
