Kuala Lumpur, October 7- The director of the Center for Latin American Studies of the Malaya University, Dr Mario Arturo Ruiz Estrada received the Cuban ambassador to Malaysia, Ibete Fernández Hernandez, who paid a courtesy visit regarding his recent appointment of Dr Estrada in front of the institution.
During the meeting, the parties addressed current international issues, as well as the impact of Covid 19 in the world. Dr. Ruiz Estrada praised the work carried out by the Cuban medical brigades in confronting the virus and at the same time thanked the presence of Cuban doctors in his country of origin, Guatemala, highlighting that their presence has been crucial for the care of the population and improving their health indices.
In this sense, and given Cuba's experience, he indicated the possibility of establishing academic collaboration in the health sector and in the study of tropical diseases, which affect Cuba and Malaysia, taking into account belonging to similar geographical areas.
The ambassador for her part thanked the proposal and updated the director of the center on the confrontation with Covid 19 in Cuba and the development of vaccine candidates to ensure the health of the people. He also informed him about the damage caused by the blockade in the midst of the pandemic and the campaign to discredit the solidarity collaboration provided by Cuba.
The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) was established in July 2013 to promote research on Latin America at the Malaya University.
