Third Secretary Roberto Soto Martínez speaks at the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review report of Brunei Darussalam. 58th Human Rights Council.

Mr. President,

We welcome the delegation of Brunei Darussalam. We acknowledge the political will of that nation to continue advancing in the promotion and protection of the human rights of its population, as well as its commendable efforts in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

We are pleased that the country has accepted the three recommendations made by Cuba in a spirit of cooperation and respect.

We urge Brunei to continue improving the water supply system to ensure access to clean, safe and affordable water, particularly for residents in rural areas, and to strengthen the legislative framework to address environmental challenges, including climate change mitigation and adaptation.

We wish Brunei Darussalam success in implementing the recommendations accepted in this fourth cycle, and express our support for the adoption of the report.

Thank you.
