Third Secretary Roberto Soto Martínez, speaks on the occasion of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Republic of Guinea. 49th session of the Human Rights Council’s UPR Working Group.

Mr President,

We extend a warm welcome to the delegation of the Republic of Guinea and acknowledge the country’s commitment to the Universal Periodic Review.

We commend Guinea for adopting a more robust regulatory framework for the promotion and protection of human rights, following the implementation of recommendations from the third cycle of the UPR.

In a constructive spirit, we recommend:

  1. Further strengthen the justice system to tackle instances of corruption.
  2. Continue national efforts to strengthen the National Land Policy and ensure access to decent and adequate housing.
  3. Continue to take measures to prevent and effectively fight against abuse, violence, and discrimination that undermine the well-being of children.

We recognise the progress made in fulfilling the commitments made with regard to environmental protection and climate change.

We wish the Republic of Guinea every success in this review and in the implementation of the accepted recommendations.

Thank you.
