Three Cuban coaches awarded for their excellent results

On behalf of the Minister of Culture and Sports of Barbados, John King, the Executive Director of the National Sports Council, Mr. Jerry Blenman, recognized the effort, dedication, humility and discipline of the Cuban coaches, whose valuable presence has been felt in the primary and secondary schools of the island as in the bosom of national federations and different clubs with which they have interacted. In particular, he highlighted the continuity of the work carried out during six consecutive years by three technicians: Felipe Alvarez (boxing), Mijail Santos (cycling) and Julio Madrazo (volleyball), who were awarded with a trophy with an autochthonous Barbadian symbol, a beautiful flying fish sculpted in precious wood. Their most relevant outcome is as follows:

Main results of the Boxing coach:

2016: The Caribbean Cup, Barbados: 17 medals between the men's and women's teams; of them 5 gold medals, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

2017: In the events programmed by AIBA, an athlete was classified for the Pan-American Championship, which in turn qualified for the World Championship in Germany, losing in a closed match in medal discussion.

2017: The Creole Caribbean International Tournament, in Saint Lucia where more than 14 islands participated and Barbados was one of the guests, the Cuban coach led the national team and reached the First Place by Teams, obtaining medals for the 9 participating athletes, of them 7 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

2018: In the same edition of the Creole Caribbean International Tournament, in Santa Lucia, the athletes that the coach has trained won 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals; In the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, Colombia, 4 athletes were qualified and a bronze medal was obtained.

Main results of the Volleyball coach:

2012: Second place in the Caribbean Tournament, Junior, in Trinidad and Tobago (m).

2013: First place in the Caribbean Tournament, Junior, in Guadalupe (m).

2014: In the in the Caribbean Tournament, Junior, Trinidad and Tobago (m); Classification of Barbados, for the first time, for NORCECA, in San Salvador, where the 6th place (m) was obtained.

2015: Technical assistance was provided to the athletes for the Caribbean Youth Tournament, reaching the First place, Curaçao (f).

2016: First place in the Caribbean Tournament, Junior, in Barbados (m).

2017: Participation in the Pan-American of Volleyball, U-23, in Canada, reaching 6th place (m).

Main results of the Cycling coach:

2012: Grand Prix international of Trinidad and Tobago: 3 gold medals, 2 silver and the Best Youth Athlete award were reached.

2013: Caribbean Championship in Aruba: Bronze medal in the Time Trial modality and 4th place in Road Race, Youth; Grand Prix International in Trinidad and Tobago: 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.

2014: Pan-American Road Championship, in Puebla, Mexico: Position 16 on the Route (with 70 runners from all of America); Commonwealth Games, Scotland: 7th place in Olympic Speed; Pan-American Track Championship, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, 6th place in the Scratch; Caribbean Championship, in Suriname: Silver Medal in Time Trial and Bronze on Road Race.

2015: Junior Caribbean Championship, in Santo Domingo: 4th place in Time Trial; Elite Caribbean Championship, in Barbados: 2 gold medals, 2 silver, 1 bronze.

2016: Junior Pan-American Championship, in Trinidad and Tobago: Silver medal in the Scratch; Junior Caribbean Championship, Santa Lucia: 4th place Time Trial Individual; Elite Track Pan American Championship, Mexico: Bronze medal in Scratch; Elite Caribbean Championship, in Guadeloupe: 1 silver medal, 2 bronze.

2017: Pan-American Road Championship, in Santo Domingo: Place 11 in Road Race and 1 classification to the Central American Games; Commonwealth Games Young, Bahamas: 4th place. On the Individual, Road Race; Classic of Tobago: First place by Team, 3rd and 4th in the general classification; Caribbean Elite Championship, in Martinique: Bronze medal and Classification for the Central American Games; Junior Caribbean Championship, in Barbados: 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze.

2018: In the Martinica´s Tour a silver medal was won in the individual general; in the Independence Tour of the Dominican Republic, the bronze medal was won in the U-23 individual general; in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, Colombia, two athletes culminated in the advance platoon of Road Race; and for the Caribbean Tournament, qualifier for the Pan American Cycling Games, three athletes will attend with great possibilities of repeating their medals.
