During the meeting between the Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the government delegation of Cuba headed by the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Marcia Cobas Ruiz, was ratified the continuity of the bilateral cooperation in health on mutually advantageous bases.
The Ghanaian Vice President reaffirmed the commitment to comply with the agreement, while the Cuban side presented new proposals that will help to increase the quality of health services rendered in Ghana.
The Cuban delegation, during its visit from May 10 to 16, covered a broad agenda of activities, which also included meetings with the Minister of Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu; with the Deputy Minister of the Northern Region, Mr. Solomon Namliit Boar; the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Charles Owiredu; Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu; the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and with the Deputy-Registrar from the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat (subordinate to the office of the President), Mrs. Lydia Darko-Acheampong. The Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern Region and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in the capital of the country were also visited.
Cuban health cooperation with Ghana dates back to 1983 and encompasses both the presence of Cuban health personnel in the country, and the training of Ghanaian doctors in medical science universities in Cuba.
The Cuban delegation was also composed by Mr. Rafael A. Jimeno López, Director of Africa and the Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex); Mr. Nivaldo Puldón Ibarzábal, General Director of Banco Financiero Internacional (BFI) and Mr. Victor Ernesto Felipe Tamayo, Vice President of the Cuban Medical Services Company (CSMC).
