Tour of the representatives of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the peoples contributes to strengthening the ties of friendship with Sweden and the Nordic region

Stockholm, Sweden- The Director for the European region of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Rigoberto Zarza Ross, continues his tour of the Nordic countries. After several meetings with friends of solidarity in the region, he developed an intense exchange program in Stockholm on March 29 and 30.

During his visit, Zarza Ross exchanged with friends about the main actions and campaigns they have developed, future projections, and above all, he conveyed the gratitude of the authorities and the Cuban people for his actions.

One of the issues that focused the exchanges was the inclusion of Cuba, by the US government, in the spurious list of countries that sponsor terrorism. In this sense, Zarza denounced the injustice of this measure, its negative implications for the island, while inviting friends to join the international demand to remove Cuba from this absurd list.

Likewise, Zarza denounced the effects caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which continues to wreak severe havoc on the national economy and is the main obstacle to the country's development.

Zarza has called for the unity and continuous action of the solidarity movement in the Nordic region and especially in Sweden, to continue fighting for the defense of Cuba, the elimination of the blockade and the continuity of the Cuban socialist system.

He also thanked the friends for the support given to the Cuban Revolution in almost half a century of relationship with ICAP, highlighting the long-standing ties with the Swedish-Cuban Friendship Association, which has been the vanguard of the solidarity movement in the region and a firm defender of the island.

The meetings in Stockholm included exchanges with the board of directors of the AASC branch in the region; with the leadership of the Red de Solidaridad con América Latina (RESOCAL), CubanosXCuba and the Swedish Communist Party (SKP); and a public meeting with friends from Cuba to address current issues.

Previously in Gothenburg, meetings were held with the Vice Mayor of the region; with the organization of Women for Peace; with the Communist Party (KP); a visit to the Club Proletaren and a public activity where more than a hundred friends participated.

The pronouncements of friends and compatriots denouncing the criminal blockade, and the demand that Cuba be removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, were constant elements in the exchanges.

Within the framework of the meeting with the board of CubanosXCuba, the virtual participation of the ICAP representation in the launch of the #UnblockCuba campaign in Germany took place.

His tour continues with a stay in Malmö and later he will fulfill a program of meetings with friends in Denmark.

The visit has been an opportunity to strengthen ties with the solidarity movement with Cuba after the years of the covid-19 pandemic, hug friends and verify once again that Cuba is not alone.
