With an event and the placing of floral offerings before the bust of the National Hero of Cuba José Martí, in a square in Athens, a heartfelt tribute was paid to him, to commemorate the 171st anniversary of his birth.
Several ambassadors and other diplomats accredited in Greece, authorities of the municipality of Athens, and officials of the CC of the KKE and the Youth of the KNE participated in the event. Also present were representatives of the José Martí Cultural Association and the Hellenic Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba, as well as other members of the solidarity movement and Greek and Latin American friends.
After the national anthems of Cuba and Greece, masterfully performed by the music band of the Municipality of Athens, the Cuban ambassador, Aramís Fuente Hernández, referred to the life and extraordinary work of the Apostle, highlighting that his political ideology and legacy continue being indispensable and remain as a guide to interpret and face the great challenges of today and for the ethical and moral training of present and future generations.
To Martí, and also to Fidel, said the ambassador, we owe the strong spirit of resistance that they instilled in entire generations of Cubans. In them, we find inspiration, the strength to resist, fight and win, even in the midst of the greatest adversity.
The event concluded with the interpretation of the well-known Guantanamera melody, performed by the music band.
