Tribute to Che Guevara and solidarity with Cuba in Sri Lanka

Colombo, October 9, 2025. Organized by the Socialist Youth Union of Sri Lanka (SYU), a tribute to Commander Ernesto Che Guevara was held on the 58th anniversary of his assassination in Bolivia. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, External  Employment and Tourism, and Cuban Ambassador Andrés Marcelo González Garrido were present.
At the event, tribute was paid to Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and the Cuban Revolution. The United States economic, financial, and commercial blockade against Cuba was denounced, and a banner was signed demanding that Cuba be removed from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The Cuban ambassador highlighted the development and achievements of the Revolution and the Cuban people in areas such as education, health, sports, and social justice.
He pointed out that these revolutionary achievements are hampered by the genocidal blockade policy imposed on Cuba by the United States government for more than six decades, the most unjust, severe, and prolonged system of unilateral sanctions ever applied against a country.
For his part, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath reaffirmed the Sri Lankan government's position of support and solidarity with Cuba.
