Oslo, October 15, 2025. To pay a well-deserved tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara, on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of his capture and subsequent assassination, an event took place in this city organized by the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association.
The president of the Association, Olga Valentina Osses, was in charge of giving the introductory remarks.
When invited to take the floor, the Ambassador of Cuba to Norway, Maité Rivero Torres, emphasized how Che's legacy endures, because, as Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz said on October 18, 1967, "Che did not fall defending any other cause but the cause of the poor and the humble of this Earth (…). And before history, men who act like him, men who do everything and give everything for the sake of the humble, become bigger and bigger every day and get deeper and deeper into the hearts of the peoples."
Amid the difficult situation that Cuba is going through due to the unjust and criminal blockade imposed by the U.S. and its unjustified continued presence on the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism, Che repositions himself as a source of inspiration, as a paradigm, as a model and as an example, the Ambassador stated.
Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera, an officer from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, who is currently visiting Norway at the invitation of the Friendship Association, gave a presentation in which she highlighted relevant aspects of Ernesto Guevara's biography, including his relationship with the Cuban revolutionary process, and how his example lives on in Cuba today.
The event was honored with the presence of the Palestinian ambassador, Marie Antoinette Sedin, who, in her remarks, evoked Che Guevara's qualities and his transcendence, and referred to the solidarity and historical ties that unite Cuba and Palestine.
The event program included the screening of video-messages by young Palestinians studying medicine in Cuba, thanking Cuba and its solidarity movement in Europe for their sustained support for the just cause of the Palestinian people. Listening to them, it was inevitable to think of Che Guevara and his legacy of internationalism and solidarity. (Embassy of Cuba to Norway)
