Tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara and Antonio Maceo in Oslo

Oslo, June 15, 2025. On Saturday the 14th, members of the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, as well as Latin American friends and Cubans living in this country, responded positively to an invitation extended by the Cuban Embassy to pay tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of his birth.

The ambassador of Cuba to Norway, Maité Rivero Torres, highlighted Che Guevara's humanism and internationalism as essential components of his thought and actions, two of the many virtues for which he became a paradigm for all Cubans, especially for the healthcare workers, always ready to save lives anywhere in the world.

Precisely in tribute to Che, as doctor, humanist, and internationalist, the moving documentary "For Life” was screened. The film was produced in 2016 by the journalist Niurka Dámarys Rodríguez, as a well-deserved acknowledgement to the Cuban doctors and nurses who participated in the fight against the Ebola epidemic in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and the Republic of Guinea.

Based on the content of the documentary, the Ambassador took the opportunity to denounce the defamatory campaign promoted by the U.S. government against Cuban international medical cooperation.

It was a suitable occasion to remember Antonio Maceo y Grajales, another great personality of Cuba´s history, also born on June 14, but in 1845, as well as to entertain fathers on the eve of their Day. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
