Georgetown, Guyana, November 23rd , 2019. The Embassy of Cuba to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz. There were present in the event solidarity friends, Cuban residents, cooperant aid of the medical brigade and education, as well as workers of the Embassy.
Among the personalities who attended the tribute was the ex-President of Guyana, Hon. Donald Ramotar, Minister of Social Protection MP, Hon. Keith Scott, President of Progressive Women Organization MP, Hon. Indranie Chandarpal, President of the Organization for the Victory of People, Mr. Gerald Perreira, and the President of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba, Mr. Halim Khan.
The Ambassador recalled that November 25th marks the third anniversary of the physical death of the Commander-in-Chief and highlighted the tie of Fidel with José Martí. He emphasized that Fidel made the dream of accomplishing the independence snatched in 1898 with the intervention of the United States come true and turned into reality a society with all and for the good of all, Fidel as Martí once said bore the decorum of many.
The former president, Hon. Donald Ramotar expressed his admiration for Fidel and highlighted his revolutionary work not just as a leader of Cuba but as a leader of Latin America, the Caribbean and the world, underlining the role Fidel used to attribute to ethics, the value of ideas and the bond with the people, elements which are the key pillars to make the Cuban Revolution invincible and will remain invincible.
Minister Scott stressed the educator nature of Fidel and his fight not only for the people of Cuba but for all people of the world as well. He expressed that Fidel led the fight against racism and the cooperation of Cuba in Africa, Latin America and particularly in Guyana where the Guyanese people appreciate the support in the areas of health and education.
Mr. Gerald Perreira emphasized that Fidel was a revolutionary who never renounced his ideals, while others do, that’s why he affirmed: Fidel is not only a leader of Cuba but world-class. He recalled that when the Soviet Union fell many people lost the ideological north and it was Fidel who showed that the revolutionaries never give up, nor renounce their ideals. Fidel’s commitment was always with mankind and justice. His ideal contributed to the understanding of the world and taught us that people can resist and overcome, and the Cuban Revolution, guided by Fidel, is an example of stamina and victory.
Mr. Komald Chand, President of the Union of Agriculture MP sent a message to all participating the event expressing that Fidel was one of the most outstanding of the XX century, with his legacy and the leadership of President Miguel Diaz Canel, Cuba and its socialist system will prevail against all the aggressive measures masterminded by the current government of the United States. He also stated that the example of Fidel will be renewed and embraced again and again by new generations of fighters of social and economic justice, by a world without war and by a just society based on humanitarian values. Fidel will live in our struggles and in our dreams for a better future. As part of the activity, it was broadcasted the documental “Fidel is Fidel” and to close the tribute it was played the touching musical video: Riding with Fidel.
