Tribute to Fidel on his 98th birthday

Last August 18 we celebrated at the Cuban Embassy in Barbados, the 98th anniversary of the birth of our Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz.

David Comissiong, Ambassador of Barbados to CARICOM and David Denny, President of the Barbados-Cuba Solidarity Association attended the activity as special guests, both delivered moving speeches based on their personal experiences of meetings they had with Fidel. Also present were representatives of the Barbados solidarity movement, journalists from “The Nation” newspaper, Cuban residents and members of the State Mission.

Coach Eliober Montero, from the INDER collaborators brigade, in his speech mentioned some historical moments in which our Cuban sports glories had meetings with Fidel after having achieved great laurels in international events, he reminded us how much Fidel enjoyed those moments and how he did not miss a single detail of those performances of our champions.

The central words of the activity were in charge of Olga Dalmau González, Chargé d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Barbados, who at the end of her speech said: “Fidel is not only an example and guide of resistance in the continent, before the advance of the U.S. imperialist forces. Fidel is not only the leader who guides and inspires Cubans to continue resisting and fighting every day for a better and fairer world.   Fidel is a beacon of light for the peoples of the world who defend and fight for their sovereignty and for world peace, therefore; on this anniversary of his birth, I ask those gathered here this afternoon that the best way to pay homage to Fidel is to raise our voices to once again condemn the iron blockade imposed by the US on the Cuban people and to demand that the Biden Administration remove Cuba from the List of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.”
