Tribute to José Martí in the Philippines

Manila, May 16, 2015. At the José Martí monument in Manila, Philippines, the solidarity friends of the Philippines-Cuba Friendship Society (PCFS), along with Cuban Ambassador Yadira Ledesma Hernández, paid tribute to Cuba's national hero and laid a wreath, on the eve of the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of this great Cuban intellectual and patriot.

The monument is a sculpture by Cuban artist Lescay, which was donated to the city on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Apostle's birth.

José Martí is a figure recognized among Filipinos for his struggle against Spanish colonialism, which the people of this Asian nation also fought against.
