Tribute paid in Guyana to the Martyrs of Barbados

Guyana, October 6, 2021. Chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Honorable Hugh Hilton Todd, a solemn event of tribute was paid to those who fell as a result of the terrorist attack against the CU-flight. 455 of Cubana de Aviación, which occurred 45 years ago on October 6, 1976 which claimed the lives of 73 people, including 57 Cuban citizens, 11 Guyanese and 5 Koreans. This abhorrent crime was organized by the terrorists Luis Posada Carriles, and Orlando Bosch, who wanted to have the support and protection of the Central Intelligence Agency of the Government of the United States of America.

The event took place at the Monument to the Victims of Terrorism which is located on the campus of the University of Guyana, where floral offerings were placed by the Hon. Hugh Hilton Todd, the Cuban Ambassador, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro , the honorary consul of Barbados, Captain Gerald Gouveia and Ms. Carol Thomas, representing the relatives of the Guyanese victims.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Honorable Charles Reamson, the Director of the Americas of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Ambassador George Talbot, the President of the Guyana-Cuba Solidarity Movement, Mr. Halim Kahn, as well as officials and workers of the diplomatic mission and a representation of the Cuban Medical Brigade, attended the tribute as well.
