Ankara, October 3, 2019. Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, received today the Cuban ambassador, Luis Alberto Amorós Núñez, at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in the Eurasian country.
At the cordial meeting, priority aspects of bilateral political and economic relations were reviewed. Both representatives agreed to positively assess the status of these links. In addition, they took the opportunity to exchange on topics of common interest in international politics.
The Turkish Minister highlighted his official visit to Cuba last May and described the meetings he had then with President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez as excellent and warm, as well as with other Cuban authorities, including his counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
The Antillean representative updated on the negative impact of the strengthened measures of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba, and thanked Turkey's traditional support for the Cuban resolution condemning this policy. He also reported on the progress of bilateral economic-trade, cooperation and cultural ties and the ongoing efforts to continue its expansion.
Minister Cavusoglu reiterated Turkey's traditional position against the blockade and any unilateral sanctions against sovereign states, thanked the information received and highlighted his government's willingness to consolidate its economic-commercial cooperation with Cuba.
During the day, the Cuban Ambassador held another meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sedat Onal, with whom he also addressed aspects of interest in bilateral relations.
