Two countries, one culture.

Abuja, November 8, 2023.- The Cuban ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, was received this afternoon by the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs. Hannatu Musawa on a courtesy visit.

During the meeting, the Ambassador mentioned the ancestral ties that exist between both countries, since during the colonial period around 3 million slaves belonging to various African countries, most of them from Nigeria, were transferred to the Cuban coast. She added Cuba was a multicultural island in which all religions and beliefs lived in harmony. As a curious fact, she commented on the existence of a community in Cuba of Nigerian descendants, who preserved the beliefs of their ancestors and enriched the mix that characterized this beautiful island. The Cuban ambassador conveyed to the Minister the invitation to participate in the Havana International Book Fair and the Cultural Biennial, both to be held during the coming year.

For her part, the Minister agreed on the importance of working to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries based on the ancestral ties that unite us. She also conveyed her interest in visiting Cuba and being able to participate in such important events, at the same time that she considered it would be an opportune moment to strengthen relations in cultural matters.

Third Secretary Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot was present on the Cuban side.
