At the UN, Cuba has denounced Israeli genocide and colonization practices against the Palestinian people

New York, November 17, 2025. — The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, addressed the Fourth Committee of the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA) and stated that the Palestinian cause is a litmus test for the credibility of the multilateral system and the UN's ability to uphold the purposes and principles established 80 years ago.

He denounced the fact that the Palestinian people have been victims of extermination, ethnic cleansing, collective punishment and apartheid. He noted that more than 68,000 people have died and 170,000 have been wounded in Gaza since October 2023, 70% of whom are children and women. This situation has been exacerbated by the deprivation of water, electricity, medicine, fuel and food.

The Ambassador stated that the recent peace agreement, reached after two years of brutal genocide, is fragile and belated. Therefore, he reiterated the urgency of a permanent ceasefire and the adoption of comprehensive measures leading to a just, comprehensive and lasting solution, based on respect for international law and international humanitarian law.

Cuba reaffirmed Palestine's inalienable right to an independent and sovereign state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return for refugees. Cuba rejected the complicit role of the United States in guaranteeing the impunity of the occupying Power and demanded the total withdrawal of Israeli forces and an end to all illegal colonization and apartheid policies.

Finally, Cuba urged that unconditional humanitarian access be guaranteed, expressed support for the essential work of UNRWA, and called for Palestine's full admission as a member State of the UN. Cuba emphasized that humanity owes an immeasurable debt to the Palestinian people, and reiterated its unwavering solidarity with their legitimate cause.
