At the UN, Cuba Reaffirmed the Value of Parliamentary Diplomacy and Strengthening Ties with the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Cristian Andrés Padilla González, official of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, spoke during the debate on item 126 of the General Assembly's agenda concerning interaction between the UN, national parliaments, and the IPU.

He reiterated Cuba's commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting multilateralism, international cooperation, and a fairer, more democratic international order.

Padilla expressed Cuba's support for efforts to strengthen cooperation between the UN, the IPU, and national parliaments. He also acknowledged the United Republic of Tanzania's leadership in negotiating the UNGA's traditional triennial resolution on the matter.

The Cuban representative also mentioned the recent visit to Cuba by IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, which allowed for progress in strengthening the IPU's ties with the National Assembly of People's Power, as evidenced by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

He expressed his gratitude for the IPU's message of solidarity in response to the negative impact of the intensified US blockade, the Cuba's unjustified inclusion on the list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism, and the attacks on Cuba's international medical cooperation.

Cuba reaffirmed its support for the draft resolution and its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the IPU.
