Havana, June 15, 2020. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) donated on Monday protection means to the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The equipment is intended for workers in the agricultural sector of the central provinces of Villa Clara and Sancti Spiritus, as well as for towns in Granma and Santiago de Cuba, in the east of the country. The donation, which includes 28,000 hydroalcoholic gel bottles, 60,000 facemasks and 4,000 reusable facemasks, will be distributed in rural areas benefited by the Agrocadenas project, which boosts the production of short-cycle food.
Maribel Gutierrez, UNDP resident representative in Cuba, stressed in a press release the vital importance of protecting those workers, who guarantee the food of the people from the productive area.
According to the press release, the Cuban authorities will distribute the supplies to over 70 cooperatives and other State entities in charge of food production, one of the priorities of the Cuban government.
Since 2014, Agrocadenas project supports the development of livestock and grain chains in Cuba with funds from the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
