On Wednesday, Ambassador Daylenis Moreno Guerra, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, spoke at the Security Council's open debate on "The Situation in the Middle East, Including the Palestinian Question."
During her speech, the Cuban representative denounced the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, which is carried out with the impunity guaranteed by the political, military, and financial support provided by the United States to the occupying power.
She noted that since the escalation began in 2023, the United States has repeatedly prevented the Council from demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Moreno Guerra warned that the mechanism established for delivering humanitarian aid has been used as a tool of war, and that plans for forced displacement are being implemented under the pretext of "humanitarian cities."
She also condemned the pressure exerted on United Nations officials who denounce crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories and rejected Israeli aggression against other countries in the region, which violates international law and the United Nations Charter.
The Cuban diplomat confirmed that a comprehensive, fair, and lasting solution to the Palestinian question is necessary to achieve peace in the Middle East. She reiterated Cuba's call to end the Israeli occupation, guarantee the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and allow refugees to return.
She concluded by reaffirming Cuba's support for holding the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. She also reiterated Cuba's commitment to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
