The High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution resumed today, at the United Nations Headquarters, with an overwhelming attendance of the majority of the Organization's Member States. The conference is being co-chaired by His Excellency Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of France, and His Excellency Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, also participated, who, together with the President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang, and the conference co-chairs, addressed the opening session.
The International Conference will run until July 30 and will feature plenary sessions dedicated to statements delivered by member states, as well as a closing session with closing remarks by the Co-Chairs.
This meeting provides the international community with an opportunity to take a firm stand in support of the Palestinian cause. For nearly eight decades, the Palestinian people have been denied their right to self-determination. As part of these efforts, Cuba is participating in the conference, where it will reaffirm its commitment to and solidarity with Palestine.
The International Conference was convened based on UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81, "Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine," which was adopted in December 2024. The resolution established the Conference's objective to promote the implementation of United Nations resolutions related to Palestine and the two-state solution. The goal is to achieve just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
Resolution 79/81 provided for the conference to be held in June of this year. However, due to Israel's attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran during that period, which were in flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, the conference was postponed until now.
