In the framework of the journey against the blockade, a mural made by two Cuban painters Grettel Arrate and Grisel Rivera was inaugurated on September 15 in the city of Kolding, Denmark. This mural is the first of a set of murals that these Cuban artists will develop in different cities of Denmark, in collaboration with the Danish-Cuban Association of Friendship. As part of the program, they will continue to disseminate the Cuban art through their mural paintings in the Danish cities of Aarhus, European Capital of Culture in 2017 and Copenhagen.
During the opening ceremony, Jesper Elkjaer, Chairman of the Culture Committee at City Hall, praised the work done by the Cuban painters and said that the exhibition opens up opportunities to develop new cultural projects between Cuba and Denmark. Elkjaer regretted the damages caused by Hurricane Irma to the Cuban nation, and conveyed his solidarity and desire for a speedy recovery of the island.
The Cuban Ambassador to Denmark, Yiliam Gómez Sardiñas, stressed that the Cuban government has always prioritized the development of art and culture as a heritage of the people, despite the unfair blockade that has been imposed and expressed it must be lifted. The diplomat also thanked the words and gestures of solidarity and support for her country after the passing of Hurricane Irma.
Before the mural was inaugurated, the Cuban Ambassador held a meeting with the Mayor of the city of Kolding, Jorn Pedersen, where they explored possible areas of exchange.
The local newspaper JydskeVestkysten gave wide coverage to the work done by the Cuban painters in this Danish city. (Embacuba Dinamarca)
