Statement of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association
The belated and overdue indication by the United States of America, Secretary of State in its most recent report and the non-inclusion the our sister country, from among the a list of four countries who allegedly ‘ do not fully cooperate with the United States anti-terrorist efforts for the 2023 calendar year’, is a welcome first step by the international progressive community.
However, as positive an indicator as this move represents, it does not go far enough in removing Cuba and other states that are not their lackeys, from an arbitrary and spurious list of ‘sponsors of state terrorism, which, as the former disgraced occupant of the White House Donald Trump did use ‘willy nilly’, as a tool of unilateral coercive measure(sanction), when it suits the empire.
Furthermore, these actions are uni-lateral and devoid of any international law or convention, has deep and far-reaching consequences for financial and commercial activities especially, for the aggrieved countries and should be highly placed among the list of reforms that are absolutely necessary, for the international community.
We further note, that despite the overwhelming evidence by both its intelligence and law-enforcement agencies, Cuba, contrary to the spiteful and bogus designation of being a sponsor of state terrorism, has been an continues to be, a victim of terrorism, articulated, sponsored and carried out by the United States of America and its agents, since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution led by its historic leader, Fidel, in 1959.
The 6 decades plus economic, financial and commercial blockade cum albatross, which has been applied with genocidal intent and placed around the necks of the Cuban population, from the newly born to most elderly by the government of the United States of America, provides the perfect example that entire the world knows, is the undisputed champions of state sponsored terrorism as via the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), continues to agitate for its unconditional removal.
The sons and daughters of Marti, Fidel, Raul and Diaz Canel, can continue to count on the unconditional support of their Jamaican brothers and sisters in the best traditions of our people who have resisted oppression.
